ಏಕಚತ್ವರಿಂಶಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ

ಪುತ್ತ್ರಾಂಶ್ಚಿರಗತಾನ್ ಜ್ಞಾತ್ವಾ ಸಗರೋ ರಘುನಂದನಃ |
ನಪ್ತಾರಮಬ್ರವೀದ್ರಾಜಾ ದೀಪ್ಯಮಾನಂ ಸ್ವತೇಜಸಾ ||

ಸ|| (ಹೇ)ರಘುನಂದನಃ ! ಸಗರೋ ಪುತ್ರಾನ್ ಚಿರ ಗತಾನ್ ಜ್ಞಾತ್ವಾ ಸ್ವ ತೇಜಸಾ ದೀಪ್ತಮಾನಂ ನಪ್ತಾರಮ್ ರಾಜಾ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್|

Oh Raghunandana ! Concerned that it is a long time since his sons went in search of the sacrificial horse, King Sagara spoke to his grandson who is shining with his own brilliance.

ಶೂರಶ್ಚ ಕೃತವಿದ್ಯಶ್ಚ ಪೂರ್ವೈಸ್ತುಲ್ಯೋ sಸಿ ತೇಜಸಾ |
ಪಿತೄಣಾಂ ಗತಿಮನ್ವಿಚ್ಛ ಯೇನ ಚಾಶ್ವೋs ಪವಾಹಿತಃ ||

ಸ|| (ತ್ವಂ) ಶೂರಶ್ಚ ಕೃತವಿದ್ಯಶ್ಚ ತೇಜಸಾ ಪೂರ್ವೈಃ ತುಲ್ಯೋಸಿ . ಪಿತೄಣಾಂ ಗತಿಂ ಚ ಯೇನ ಚ ಅಶ್ವೋ ಅಪವಾಹಿತಃ ಅನ್ವಿಚ್ಚ!

'You are well accomplished and equal your ancestors in all respects. You go and search for your father's brothers , the sacrificial horse and the one who stole the same too!

ಂತರ್ಭೌಮಾನಿ ಸತ್ತ್ವಾನಿ ವೀರ್ಯವಂತಿ ಮಹಂತಿ ಚ |
ತೇಷಾಂ ತ್ವಂ ಪ್ರತಿಘಾತಾರ್ಥಂ ಸಾಸಿಂ ಗೃಹ್ಣೀಷ್ವ ಕಾರ್ಮುಕಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ಭೌಮಾನಿ ಅಂತರೇ ಸತ್ವಾನಿ ವೀರ್ಯವಂತಿ ಮಹಂತಿ ಚ | ತ್ವಂ ತೇಷಾಂ ಪ್ರತಿಘಾತಾರ್ಥಮ್ ಸಾಸಿಂ ಕಾರ್ಮುಕಂ ಚ ಗೃಹ್ಣೀಷ್ವ |

 

There are creatures in the underground which are big and powerful . Carry your sword and bows to demolish them.

ಅಭಿವಾದ್ಯಾಭಿವಾದ್ಯಾಂಸ್ತ್ವಂ ಹತ್ವಾ ವಿಘ್ನಕರಾನಪಿ |
ಸಿದ್ಧಾರ್ಥಸ್ಸನ್ ನಿವರ್ತಸ್ವ ಮಮ ಯಜ್ಞಸ್ಯ ಪಾರಗಃ ||

ಸಾ|| ತ್ವಂ ಅಭಿವಾದ್ಯಾ ಅಭಿವಾದ್ಯಾಂ ತ್ವಂ ವಿಘ್ನಕರಾನ್ ಅಪಿ ಹತ್ವಾ , ಸಿದ್ಧಾರ್ಥಃ ( ಭೂತ್ವಾ) ನಿವರ್ತಸ್ವ| ಮಮ ಯಜ್ಞಸ್ಯ ಪಾರಗಃ ||

'You bow to those who deserve to be bowed. Destroy those who create obstructions. Accomplish your task and return. Then complete my sacrificial rites'.

ಏವಮುಕ್ತೋಂಸುಮಾನ್ ಸಮ್ಯಕ್ ಸಗರೇಣ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಾ |
ಧನುರಾದಾಯ ಖಡ್ಗಂ ಚ ಜಗಾಮ ಲಘುವಿಕ್ರಮಃ ||
ಸ ಖಾತಂ ಪಿತೃಭಿರ್ಮಾರ್ಗಂ ಅಂತರ್ಭೌಮಂ ಮಹಾತ್ಮಭಿಃ|
ಪ್ರಾಪದ್ಯತ ನರಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ತೇನ ರಾಜ್ಞಾಭಿಚೋದಿತಃ ||

ಸಾ||(ಸಃ) ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಾ ಸಗರೇಣ ಏವಂ ಸಮ್ಯಕ್ ಉಕ್ತಃ ಅಂಸುಮಾನ್ ಖಡ್ಗಂ ಚ ಧನುಃ ಆದಾಯ (ಸಃ) ವಿಕ್ರಮಃ ಲಘು ಜಗಾಮ | (ಹೇ) ನರಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ! ರಾಜ್ಞಾಭಿಃ ಚ ಉದಿತಃ ಸಃ ಮಹಾತ್ಮಭಿಃ ಪಿತೃಭಿಃಅಂತರ್ಬೌಮಂ ಖಾತಂ ಮಾರ್ಗಂ ತೇನ ಪ್ರಾಪದ್ಯತ |

'Having thus been told appropriately by Sagara , Ansuman moved swiftly after taking his sword and bow. Oh the best of kings! having been thus directed by the king , he followed the same path taken his forefathers'.

ದೈತ್ಯ ದಾನವ ರಕ್ಷೋಭಿಃ ಪಿಶಾಚಪತಗೋರಗೈಃ |
ಪೂಜ್ಯಮಾನಂ ಮಹಾತೇಜಾ ದಿಶಾಗಜ ಮಪಶ್ಯತ ||
ಸ ತಂ ಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣೀ ಕೃತ್ವಾ ಪೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾಚಾಪಿ ನಿರಾಮಯಮ್ |
ಪಿತೄನ್ ಸ ಪರಿಪೃಚ್ಛ ವಾಜಿಹರ್ತಾರಮೇವ ಚ ||
ದಿಶಾಗಜಸ್ತು ತಚ್ಛ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಾಹಾಂಶು ಮತೋ ವಚಃ |
ಅಸಮಂಜ ಕೃತಾರ್ಥಸ್ತ್ವಂ ಸಹಾಶ್ವಶ್ಶೀಘ್ರಮೇಷ್ಯಸಿ ||

ಸ|| (ಸಃ) ಮಹಾತೇಜಾ ದೈತ್ಯ ದಾನವ ರಕ್ಷೋಭಿಃ ಪಿಶಾಚ ಪತಗ ಉರಗೈಃ ಪೂಜ್ಯಮಾನಂ ದಿಶಾಗಜಂ ಅಪಸ್ಯತ |ಸಃ ತಂ ಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣೀ ಕೃತ್ವಾ ನಿರಾಮಯಂ ಪೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾಚ ಸಃ ಪಿತೄನ್ ವಾಜ ಹರ್ತಾರಮೇವ ಚ ಪರಿಪೃಚ್ಚ |ತತ್ ಅಂಶುಮತೋ ವಚೋ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ದಿಶಾಗಜಸ್ತು ಪ್ರತ್ಯಾಹ | (ಹೇ) ಅಸಮಂಜಸ ! ತ್ವಂ ಕೃತಾರ್ಥಃ ( ಭವಸಿ) ಶೀಘ್ರಂ ಸಹ ಅಶ್ವಂ ಏಷ್ಯಸಿ ||

'There he saw that great elephant which is worshipped by the Devas, Danavas , Rakshasas and all others. Having paid obeisance and asked about its welfare , then he enquired about his fathers brothers and the sacrificial horse. Having heard Ansuman , that great elephant replied as follows."oh Ansuman you will be successful and will go back soon with the sacrificial horse."

ತಸ್ಯ ತದ್ವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಸರ್ವಾನೇವ ದಿಶಾಗಜಾನ್ |
ಯಥಾಕ್ರಮಂ ಯಥಾನ್ಯಾಯಂ ಪ್ರಷ್ಟುಂ ಸಮುಪಚಕ್ರಮೇ ||
ತೈಶ್ಚ ಸರ್ವೈರ್ದಿಶಾಪಾಲೈಃ ವಾಕ್ಯಜ್ಞೈರ್ವಾಕ್ಯಕೋವಿದೈಃ |
ಪೂಜಿತಸ್ಸಹಯಶ್ಚೈವ ಗಂತಾಸಿತ್ಯಭಿಚೋದಿತಃ ||
ಸ|| (ಸಃ) ತಸ್ಯ ತತ್ ವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಸರ್ವಾನ್ ದಿಶಾಗಜಾನ್ ಯಥಾಕ್ರಮಂ ಯಥಾನ್ಯಾಯಂ ಪ್ರಷ್ಟುಂ ಏವ ಸಮುಪಚಕ್ರಮೇ| ತೈಃ ಸರ್ವೈಃ ದಿಶಾಪಾಲೈಃ ವಾಕ್ಯಜ್ಞೈಃ ವಾಕ್ಯಕೋವಿದೈಃ ಪೂಜಿತಃ ಸಹಯಶ್ಚ ಏವ ಗಂತಾಸಿ ಇತಿ ಅಭಿಚೋದಿತಃ |.

Having heard the that great elephant , Ansuman proceeded in the same manner and asked the other great elephants in the same way respectfully. Those great elephants too being able to recognize those who speak with respect and who are great speakers, honored him and spoke to him saying " You will go back with the sacrificial horse soon".

ತೇಷಾಂ ತದ್ವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಜಗಾಮ ಲಘುವಿಕ್ರಮಃ |
ಭಸ್ಮರಾಶೀ ಕೃತಾ ಯತ್ರ ಪಿತರಸ್ತಸ್ಯ ಸಾಗರಾಃ ||
ಸ ದುಃಖವಶಮಾಪನ್ನಃ ತ್ವಸಮಂಜಸುತಸ್ತದಾ |
ಚುಕ್ರೋಶ ಪರಮಾರ್ತಸ್ತು ವಧಾತ್ ತೇಷಾಂ ಸುದುಃಖಿತಃ |

ಸ|| ತೇಷಾಮ್ ತತ್ ವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಸ ವಿಕ್ರಮಃ ಲಘು ( ತತ್ರ) ಜಗಾಮ ಯತ್ರ ಸಾಗರಾಃ ತಸ್ಯ ಪಿತರಃ ಭಶ್ಮರಾಶೀಕೃತಾ ( ಆಸೀತ್) | ತದಾ ತ್ವ ಸಮಂಜಸಸುತ ದುಃಖವಶಮಾಪನ್ನಃ ತೇಷಾಮ್ ವಧಾತ್ ಸುದುಃಖಿತಃ ಪರಮಾರ್ತಸ್ತು ಚುಕ್ರೋಶ |

'Hearing those words Ansuman proceeded to the place where his fathers brothers, the sons of Sagara were burnt to ashes. Then that son of Asamamjasa was over come with grief and started weeping'.

ಯಜ್ಞೀಯಂ ಚ ಹಯಂ ತತ್ರ ಚರಂತಂ ಅವಿದೂರತಃ |
ದದರ್ಶ ಪುರುಷವ್ಯಾಘ್ರೋ ದುಃಖಶೋಕ ಸಮನ್ವಿತಃ ||

ಸ|| ಸಃ ದುಃಖಶೋಕ ಸಮನ್ವಿತಃ ಪುರುಷವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಃ ತತ್ರ ಅವಿದೂರತಃ ಯಜ್ಞೀಯಂ ಹಯಂ ಚರಂತಂ ದದರ್ಶ |

'Then that best of men who is immersed in sorrow then saw that sacrificial horse moving around nearby'.

ಸ ತೇಷಾಂ ರಾಜಪುತ್ತ್ರಾಣಾಂ ಕರ್ತುಕಾಮೋ ಜಲಕ್ರಿಯಾಮ್ |
ಸಲಿಲಾರ್ಥೀ ಮಹಾತೇಜಾ ನ ಚಾಪಶ್ಯತ್ ಜಲಾಶಯಮ್ ||
ವಿಸಾರ್ಯ ವಿಪುಲಾಂ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಂ ತತೋsಪಸ್ಯತ್ ಖಗಾಧಿಪಮ್ |
ಪಿತೄಣಾಂ ಮಾತುಲಂ ರಾಮ ಸುಪರ್ಣಂ ಅನಿಲೋಪಮಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ತೇಷಾಂ ರಾಜ ಪುತ್ರಾಣಾಂ ಜಲಕ್ರಿಯಾಂ ಕರ್ತುಕಾಮೋ ಸಲಿಲಾರ್ಥೀ , ಮಹಾತೇಜಾ ಸಃ ಜಲಾಶಯಂ ನ ಚ ಅಪಸ್ಯತ್ | (ಹೇ) ರಾಮಾ ! ತತಃ ವಿಪುಲಾಂ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಂ ವಿಸಾರ್ಯ ಪಿತೄಣಾಂ ಮಾತುಲಂ ಸುಪರ್ಣಂ ಅನಿಲೋಪಮಂ ಖಗಾಧಿಪತಿಂ ಅಪಸ್ಯತ್

'Then that great one who was desirous of paying respects with water could not find water body nearby. Oh Rama ! Then as he looked farther there he found the king of Birds and the maternal uncle of his father's brothers''.

ಸ ಚೈವಮಬ್ರವೀದ್ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ವೈನತೇಯೋ ಮಹಾಬಲಃ |
ಮಾಶುಚಃ ಪುರುಷವ್ಯಾಘ್ರ ವಧೋsಯಂ ಲೋಕಸಮ್ಮತಃ ||
ಕಪಿಲೇ ನಾ ಪ್ರಮೇಯೇಣ ದಗ್ಧಾ ಹೀಮೇ ಮಹಾಬಲಾಃ |
ಸಲಿಲಂ ನಾರ್ಹಸಿ ಪ್ರಾಜ್ಞ ದಾತು ಮೇಷಾಂ ಹಿ ಲೌಕಿಕಮ್ ||
ಗಂಗಾ ಹಿಮವತೋ ಜ್ಯೇಷ್ಠಾ ದುಹಿತಾ ಪುರುಷರ್ಷಭ |
ತಸ್ಯಾಂ ಕುರು ಮಹಾಬಾಹೋ ಪಿತೄಣಾಂ ತು ಜಲಕ್ರಿಯಾಮ್||
ಭಸ್ಮರಾಶೀ ಕೃತಾನ್ ಏತಾನ್ ಪ್ಲಾವಯೇಲ್ಲೋಕಪಾವನೀ |
ತಯಾ ಕ್ಲಿನ್ನಮಿದಂ ಭಸ್ಮ ಗಂಗಯಾ ಲೋಕಕಾಂತಯಾ |
ಷಷ್ಟಿಂ ಪುತ್ತ್ರ ಸಹಸ್ರಾಣಿ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಲೋಕಂ ನಯಿಷ್ಯತಿ ||
ಗಚ್ಛಚಾಶ್ವಂ ಮಹಾಭಾಗ ತಂ ಗೃಹ್ಯ ಪುರುಷರ್ಷಭ |
ಯಜ್ಞಂ ಪೈತಾಮಹಂ ವೀರ ಸಂವರ್ತಯಿತುಮರ್ಹಸಿ ||

स॥ स महाबलः वैनतेयः वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् . " पुरुषव्याघ्र ! मा शुचः अयं लोक सम्मतः वधः".अप्रमेयेण कपिलेन इमे दग्धाः हि ! लौकिकं प्राज्ञ एषां सलिलं दातु न अर्हसि ।(हे) पुरुषर्षभ ! हिमवतो ज्येष्ठा दुहिता गंगा ।महाबाहो तस्यां ( गंगायां) कुरु पितॄणां तु जलक्रियां । भस्मराशीकृतान् एषान् लोकपावनि प्लावयेत् । इदं भस्मं लोककांतया गंगाया क्लिन्नं षष्टिं सहस्राणि पुत्राणि स्वर्गलोकं नयिष्यति ।(हे) महभागा ! पुरुषर्षभा !तं अश्वं गृह्य च गच्च ! वीर ! पितामहं यज्ञं संवर्तयितुं अर्हसि"।

'That powerful king of birds then spoke as follows: "Oh best among men ! Do not grieve ! This death is for the benefit of all. They were destroyed by the sage Kapila. According to the accepted norms they may not paid respects by leaving water. Oh Best of men! Ganga is the eldest daughter of Himalaya. Oh best of men , you can pay respect to your forefathers by leaving water in Ganga. Those who have been turned to Ashes will be cleansed of their sins by Ganga. When those ashes are wetted by the Ganga the sixty thousand sons of Sagara will go to heaven. Oh Great Soul ! best of men ! Take that horse and go. oh Hero ! you can now complete the sacrificial rites" .

ಸುಪರ್ಣ ವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಸೋಂಶುಮಾನತಿ ವೀರ್ಯವಾನ್ |
ತ್ವರಿತಂ ಹಯ ಮಾದಾಯ ಪುನರಾಯಾನ್ಮಹಾಯಶಾಃ ||
ತತೋ ರಾಜಾನಮಾಸಾದ್ಯ ದೀಕ್ಷಿತಂ ರಘುನಂದನಃ |
ನ್ಯವೇದಯತ್ ಯಥಾವೃತ್ತಂ ಸುಪರ್ಣ ವಚನಂ ತಥಾ ||

ಸ|| ಸಃ ವೀರ್ಯವಾನ್ ಅಂಶುಮಾನ್ ಸುಪರ್ಣ ವಚನಮ್ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಹಯಂ ಆದಾಯ ಮಹಾಯಶಾಃ ತ್ವರಿತಂ ಪುನರಾಯಾನ್| (ಹೇ) ರಘುನಂದನ ! ದೀಕ್ಷಿತಂ ರಾಜಾನಂ ಆಸಾದ್ಯ ಯಥಾವೃತ್ತಂ ತಥಾ ಸುಪರ್ಣ ವಚನಂ (ಅಪಿ) ನ್ಯವೇದಯತ್ ||

'Hearing those words of the King of birds, Ansuman took the horse and returned to the
sacrificial grounds. Oh King ! Ansuman told the complete story including the words of the King of birds to Sagara'.

ತಚ್ಛ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಘೋರಸಂಕಾಶಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಮಂಶುಮತೋ ನೃಪಃ |
ಯಜ್ಞಂ ನಿರ್ವರ್ತಯಾಮಾಸ ಯಥಾಕಲ್ಪಂ ಯಥಾವಿಧಿ ||

ಸ|| ಅಂಶುಮತೋ ಘೋರಸಂಕಾಶಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ತತ್ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ನೃಪಃ ಯಥಾಕಲ್ಪಂ ಯಥಾವಿಥಿ ಯಜ್ಞಂ ನಿರ್ವತಯಾಮಾಸ|

'Having heard the dreadful news ( of his sons destruction) the King nevertheless completed the sacrificial rites'.

ಸ್ವಪುರಂ ಚಾಗಮತ್ ಶ್ರೀಮಾನ್ ಇಷ್ಟಯಜ್ಞೋ ಮಹೀಪತಿಃ |
ಗಂಗಾಯಾ ಶ್ಚಾಗಮೇ ರಾಜಾ ನಿಶ್ಚಯಂ ನಾಧ್ಯಗಚ್ಛತ ||

ಸ|| ಮಹೀಪತಿಃ ಇಷ್ಟಯಜ್ಞೋ ( ಕೃತವಾನ್) ಸ್ವಪುರಂ ಚ ಆಗಮತ್ | ರಾಜಾ ಗಂಗಾಯಾಶ್ಚ ಆಗಮೇ ನಿಶ್ಚಯಂ ಅ ಅಧ್ಯ ಗಚ್ಚತ |

'Having completed the sacrificial rites , the king returned to his capital. He could not come to a conclusion about bringing Ganga to complete the rites for his departed children'.

ಅಕೃತ್ವಾ ನಿಶ್ಚಯಂ ರಾಜಾ ಕಾಲೇನ ಮಹತಾ ಮಹಾನ್ |
ತ್ರಿಂಶದ್ವರ್ಷ ಸಹಸ್ರಾಣಿ ರಾಜ್ಯಂ ಕೃತ್ವಾ ದಿವಂಗತಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ತ್ರಿಂಶದ್ವರ್ಷ ಸಹಸ್ರಾಣಿ ರಾಜ್ಯಮ್ ಕೃತ್ವಾ , ( ಗಂಗಾಯಾಶ್ಚಾಗಮನೇ) ನಿಶ್ಚಯಂ ಅಕೃತ್ವಾ ಮಹಾನ್ ರಾಜಾ ಮಹತಾ ಕಾಲೇನ ದಿವಂಗತಮ್ |

'Having ruled for thirty thousand years , the king passed away without finalizing the action to be pursued about Ganga'.

ಇತ್ಯಾರ್ಷೇ ಶ್ರೀಮದ್ರಾಮಾಯಣೇ ವಾಲ್ಮೀಕೀಯೇ ಆದಿಕಾವ್ಯೇ ಬಾಲಕಾಂಡೇ ಏಕಚತ್ವಾರಿಂಶಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ |
